How do you all think these boots would perform with strap bindings? Is 3x Thinsulate too warm? They have a 1x version as well.

The lower section and sole look great (although it may not sit very well on a strap binding's baseplate) but the upper cuff is basically non-existent. You need that higher cuff for support, its critical. I'm not able to tell from the picture but it doesn't look like this boot has a removable liner. If it did you could put a regular (taller) snowboard boot liner it and achieve the higher cuff you need. Or so I've heard.

Thanks bcrider. I was starting to think the same thing. I think I'm trying too hard to get new mountaineering boots that'll work with my new split too. I was also looking at these:



More the plastic route. Maybe use them with the MTN Plate binding?

This is the type of mod you could do to the PMBs or MBs. The second pic you posted looks like it could work because it has a removable liner.


Cowboy has done a similar mod as well with a pair of Invernos and Airwalk boots.

If you're looking to make a mountaineering boot work with strap bindings.... go with the La Sportiva Nuptse. It has the tallest cuff of any mountaineering boot on the market.

I have a friend who swears by them. He uses them with a set of Flow bindings that he swiss-cheesed to eliminate weight.
