Thinking of going on our first overnight tour this weekend. Not sure where yet. We want to do something pretty easy as to not get completely thrashed. We mostly just want to get out and camp have a good fire and get drunk, then do some laps somewhere the next day.

The 2 main areas of interest now are Redpine and Alexander basin any other good ideas?

I have camped in the winter but never doing something so strenuous before hand. I am worried about sweaty clothes and dealing with my wet boot liners. What is the best way to deal with them?

sleep with your liners in the bottom of your sleeping bag.

Change into dry clothes before you crash for the night!

The best way to deal with this is to be sober when you go out and try it for the first time. I've done plenty of winter camping with a big old bottle of whisky but I don't recommend it if you're not cognizant of specifically how to avoid hypothermia.

We are planning on knocking back a few but not getting fall down drunk. Decisions made then would be bad or not made at all. And a hangover would ruin the next days touring.

Not sure about the liners in my sleeping bag. They are for sure wet as hell when I am done touring. And my bag is pretty small to begin with. Any other strategies for the boots? When I used to camp in upstate NY when I was a kid it would be below zero. But my boots were not completely wet either. They would freeze pretty good overnight and it would suck in the morning putting them on. I remember forcing myself to go on a walk in the snow to get my blood moving and get my feet warm.

Set em out in the sun, use newspaper, light a fire, wear them on your feet overnight, buy intuitions.

Bring extra fuel. Sucks when you forget, we made that mistake last weekend and didn't get what we intented. I'm in the learning phase of winter camping as well. But it is damn fun, and have a good time.
