I spent some time in them last year and found them to be very similar to a medium-stiff soft Boot. My buddy Jef swears by them, and he's totally into the low-angle or duck, soft-boot riding style. He uses them with straps or Flow bindings. I'd be cautious with those Cartel bindings... I don't know about the Nuptses, but I kept blowing up the toe-cap straps with other mountaineering boots last year... they don't seem to be able to withstand the pressure of a rigid soled boot.
Another word of caution, though... these boots were designed for extremely high altitudes. Even at 14,000' they can turn into baththubs.

I enjoy mine, but I would caution you to take Zach's advice seriously. If you are not going somewhere very, very cold, you will end up with aquariums on your feet.
However, they climb (as in, rocks and vertical ice with crampons) extremely well, and I found that cramming a $30 pair of thermofit liners into mine made it so that I could walk for miles without blisters, in addition to giving me better heel hold.
For tours with significant traversing sections I bought an old pair of Raichle 121's and will be using them with Mtn Plates this year. Everything else -- all the fun stuff -- I will probably stick with the Nuptses and Flows.

There is no way you would be happy riding plates with Nuptses unless you modified them quite a bit or rode extremely un-challenging terrain. Get an AT boot or hard snowboard boot if you are going to ride plates.

How about plastic mountaineering boots? I've read some posts saying that they are too low. Others say that they are serviceable... Any thoughts or experience folks?

Depends on the PMB's you use. I'd rather use AT boots, but that's just me.
I'm thinking of selling my Nuptse's and getting a half-size bigger, since I have Haglund's deformity in my left heel and the orthopod told me today that I could either adapt my footwear, or spend
SIX TO NINE MONTHS
recovering from the surgery. Time to re-evaluate my performance-fit boots etc.
Anyone in the market for a pair of size 44 Nuptse's? Let me know.
Anyone selling a pair of size 44.5 Nuptses? Also let me know!

Okay....
Regarding these boots being bathtubs (which is an issue cause right now i live on the East Coast...right now).......WHAT IF......you got rid of the lace up inner boot and threw in a thermofit liner?
