Hello,

The chineese hooks on my board are wearing down (3 years old). By the end of last season my front hook would unfasten constantly on decsent. It's the friction of the hook against the pin that it fastens to that is causing it.

Has anyone had a similar issue? Any fixes other than chewing gum or duct tape?

Order some new ones? My board is now 3 years old too and beat to crap. Things are falling apart. I thought the Chinese hooks were the interlocking ones, I am assuming you are talking about the tip and tail hooks, which are easily replaced. If you get the Voile replacement parts most ski shops can do the replacement for a few bucks.

Ask Voile what they would recommend to be 100% sure but you should be able to replace them fairly easily.

You just need to drill out the rivet on the hook and remove the used ones. To attach the new ones you could use a small T-Nut or rivet them again. I recommend the latter. Rivets and rivet guns are cheap (less than $20) and are good to have around the house for other stuff too.

Once you have the new tip/tail hooks, an at home fix is to roll the rivet over using a slider pin. Assemble the pieces appropriately, and then use a rubber mallet and hammer the slider pin into the end of the rivet. If the top of the rivet is braced securely, the rivet will begin rolling over. Just work it until the tension is correct. Of course, a hand rivet tool is the proper way, but you can do it at home- I've done it myself.
