It seems to be a common problem on Burton splits. A friend of mine came up with this idea and it works great. You simply drill a hole through the "tail" of the whale clip. Then you get a sturdy rope (I used shark fishing line), tie a stopper knot on one end and a bowline knot on the other. Hook the loop of the bowline around the extra post. Its a little tricky to tie the bowline so the rope is long enough that it will loop around the post but so long that it comes undone easily.
That gap between the board halves is a big part of the problem. It doesnt keep tension on the clip, and lets it slide open. I had this exact problem on my prior, and filled the gap with some JBWeld and filed it down to the correct size. Havent had a clip come undone since.
Both these other solutions look good too. A small bungee cord would probably help keep the tension better than static rope.

I need to do something like this to my new Jones. Nose clip comes undone pretty easily. I wish there were some other better options, kinda like the karakoram clips but for the nose and tail.
I had this same thing happen on my DIY. It was super frustrating. It would come unlatched every 100 ft of descent. I know those of you with a factory boards won't like this fix but I filled in the current tip clip holes with PL construction adhesive (I'd probably use epoxy if I did it again) and then I clamped the nose of the board together so it was super tight (No possible light shining through). Then I redrilled holes for my tip clip. I made sure I was very precise when I redrilled so that the tip clip would always be in tension when latched. I've never had the tip come undone since.
I repainted it at the same time to make it look spiffy.

I'd suggest using elastic string / rope istead of sturdy kind. That way you'll keep tesion on the hook and it'll be easyer to get over the pin.
These are the same diameter as the rivets/Chinese Hooks screws. I had a bag off these from old bindings, but you should be able to get these from any hardware store. The only funky piece is the Voile spacer which acts as a screw stop. It is the same spacer as the Chinese Hook ones, and is desirable but not required. I also Dremel down the excess to make it flat and pretty.
