I usually get complete and total skunkage about once a year. The year I got it out of the way early, and where else? Mt. Lassen, which accounts for prolly 1/2 of my best skunkings. The usual culprits, rain and wind plus this time a crystiline ice crust on top of the fluffiest powder.

Sierra Avalanche Center benefit at the Divided Sky Friday evening (12/10). I think the flyer says it starts at 6pm, but things will probably get rolling a bit later. There will be some swag, some sno flicks, djs, and some SAC folks in attendance. Come down and mingle with the tribe and support our avalanche center.
Next to the back parking lot on Flagpole Peak side of the building there will be some beacon practice, contest type stuff set up..so leave your boots on if you'd like.

Any updates on Mammoth Area? I may have a chance to spend a few days in the area just before christmas and trying to figure out if it's worth it at this point in the season.
The alternative is heading up further north where I'll be in easy striking distance to Tahoe.

Nice pics. That freezing morning fog sure is pretty and sure doesn't help the snow quality.
Thanks to folks who made it out to the Divided Sky on Friday. A $1000 even was raised for SAC. I know a splitter won a gopro and my pop won an Avalung pack with a shovel and probe inside. He's not a skier anymore so he gave the pack to the lady next to him.
That's awesome Dave. Good Karma coming your dads way. I hope SAC continues to see support from us splitters and especially from all the newbies. They help keep us all safe out there!
BG...Super rad west shore pics and cool viddy too. Kinda glad I missed out on that one

Scored some of my best turns of the year so far on Hidden Peak early this morning. Skinned under the stars for an hour before enjoying a nice Tahoe sunrise. The snow had that thick layer of surface hoar that makes that distinct rustling sound as you make turns. Not a breathe of wind at the top. And deep, deep turns for 3/4 of the way down or more. The very bottom has a thin layer of snow over ice crust and barely buried logs and rocks, making the exit a little bit of worrisome proposition if you are not on your rock board. Avoided core shots today though...
Just before sunrise.

Nice! I'll have to join you two on some west shore days as soon as my board/bindings get here. Board should be here in early Jan and I am on the Karakoram wait list...

Yeah BGnight, I'm down for some West Shore trips. PM me when your thinking of heading up here and I'd be glad to join. I saw a couple splitters heading up from the trailhead when I was on the way out. They may have been your buddies. I'm sure they scored some great snow as well. Looks like we won't have to worry about any of the low elevation barely buried logs or rocks after this weekend. Tahoe and the East Side should be going off heading into the new year.
