Depends on your definition of good... For me, turns on pow are good turns. I'll being hitting short (well under 1000m) in the 20-30° range all weekend...

zerodog - Where will good and safer riding be after this promised dump ? I'll bite: when the weather lets up, you will want be traveling on slope angles under 32 degrees (because of new snow and wind the avy danger will be significant) and in wind sheltered areas (wind-exposed areas will be stripped, buffed firm, or dangerously loaded - There was already a slab crown 10 feet tall reported on the UT Avy site). Stay out from under the big slide paths. But you'll also want to be on something with a fair bit of angle cuz it's likely to be bog-you-down deep. The above may all be obvious - if you're asking SPECIFICALLY what place to go, sorry that's cheating.

UTAH - You know my steeaze

Was talked into spinning a few on Circle Awl this a.m. Still pretty brushy but the more open shots were fun. I'd give it a few more storms before it's really worth it. Did see a half dozen or so deer up close. That was cool.

The drainages up-canyon from there have better coverage and have been riding well this week. I've stuck to wind sheltered slopes and the snow has been pretty great in those areas on all aspects.

11/25/2010 Holiday Tour

WasatchSurf and I got out for an eight hour tour in the sub 10° sunshine... We found exceptional powder and stable snow on SW through NE aspects... Slopes ranged from 20° meadow skipping to 35° + rollovers...
Other than some non threatening cornices exhibiting deep persistent slabs overlain with recent wind slabs, all lines ridden were bomber... The snow was champagne dry and bottomless in several locations...

observation: noticed surface hoar this morning riding at Brighton, snow was much faster today

Northern half of compass is powdery:


There was this slumpy looking glide slide in eastfacing Mineral Fork:


Also saw an old natural slide with jagged crown had run over the cliffs in Ivory Flakes on one of the slick rock slabs up there (to be expected). South side of compass is somewhat sun-affected. We had a bit of zipper crust and minor wet snow sluff to deal with on south-facing aspect late in the day.

An isolated column I dug in Toledo Bowl south facing 10000' failed on 2 layers: first one about 8 inches down at the 7th elbow hit, then about 15 inches down on old rime crust 7th shoulder swing.

The snow was much more sun affected and soggy than I expected it would be, in mid-elevation north trees today, but that won't last long cuz there's more snow coming! What a great start to the season.

Found good conditions in N, NW, NE sheltered locations in Silver and Days... E/NE un-sheltered was and the South exit off Emma was ~~~~~~~>

was in Brighton slackcountry today below wolverine cirque... looks like the gusty winds took out the surface hoar....snow was variable, found some sheltered shots with good snow...more snow on the way!!
