Friday, July 7th I packed my backpacking gear and splitboarding gear and hiked the five miles up into the Pine Creek drainage of the Absaroka Range in SW Montana. Saturday morning I was up at 6:00 am and atop the peak by 9:30 (1. bootpack, 2. skin, 3. Mr. Chomps). Temperatures were into the 80s but the snow up high was perfect corn. I got about 1,000' of turns of which 800' was beautiful corn followed by 200' of slushier, yet still really pushable slop. I was back at the trailhead by 1:30 pm for a total of 19 hrs car to car..

Thanks, lifelink. I was eyeing Elephanthead in June but haven't been back over that way since. Any word on how much walking was involved and how much vert was to be had?

I think they booted the whole way to the base and only the gully of the face was still in, kinda surprised there was that much for such an open face although i have hit some pretty damn good may pow there.
