I just picked up a Garmin Foretrex 301 and have really been enjoying it. No heart rate monitor or altimeter on board. The gps however does give me the elevation. Pretty basic setup, but I just like knowing all the stats of my trip. Heres a picture of it from a hike out to Blue Lake in the Sabrina Lakes Basin

Thats looks pretty sweet. I saw that the Fortrex 401 has an altimeter and it is way cheaper than anything else.
Do you think it is bulky? Does it fit underneath your glove?

Well I should mention that I got it at a REI used gear sale for $25 b/c it didnt have the wrist strap. That being said, I havent worn it on my wrist at all. Its small enough to just throw in my pants pocket though and doesn't bother me. Even if I had the strap, I couldn't see myself wearing it on my wrist. If you wear gloves with a huge snow gaiter on them then itd probably fit under that. Otherwise Itd just be up there on your wrist.
i use the garmin 401, its awesome and not as expensive to replace as the sunto(i also have a sunto x-lander military) i the 401 for work and play and it has kept me on track where ever i am and has even been used to call in artillery fire............. it didnt land on me so the gps must work.....
