I was just curious how the s series rode compared to a fish. I'm a big fan of the fish and was wondering if the s series had a similar feel to it.

they are not really similar at all. the fish has 30mm taper and the s-series has 6mm (162) or 7mm (168) depending on the size of the board. The bindings are also set much further back on the fish. The s-series rides like a freeride board with minimal taper.

interesting... what factory split would you say comes the closest to a fish? the euphoria? the spearhead?

I'm not too familiar with anything besides the s-series beacause it's the only split I have ridden. Check the specs on the other boards and try to find something with around 30mm of taper and the center point back a few inches.

I'd be very curious of your findings.

I've been riding a Fish on deep resort days for the past 4 seasons (and now a new Fish LTD that will hopefully get used this week), and a Malolo for the in between days. I also switched from a 165 Prior Backcountry split to the new hybrid rocker Khyber split this season. The Khyber feels similar to the Fish, in that the tip gets up quick and the short narrow tail allows you to sink it easily and change direction quickly. Obviously, the Khyber isn't quite as pow-only as the fish and is kinda closer to the Malolo, with 21mm vs 30mm taper and a bit more tail - this makes it more versatile IMO. I've been riding it in the mixed bag of crap we've had in the Wasatch so far this year with no problems, when a fish wouldn't have been ideal. I haven't ridden the Venture Euphoria, but I'd expect it to be pretty similar to the Khyber.

I think a split fish would be rad, but not if it were my only split. Kinda like a swallowtail split, it would only get used on the best days.

Maybe it's the burton koolaid, but I see people riding the Fish in all conditions here in VT. It's not just a pow board, but also a super-turney tree board. Both the NS Summit Splitty and the Khyber will be similar.

Yep, i ride my fish most of the time... and i have the Malolo for the "for sure no pow days".

The Fish is a great carver! It's surfy and fun.

yeah- that's what I really dig about the fish, it's an amazing powder board but also is a great carver on the hard stuff.

I've always been intregued by the khyber, will have to figure out how to try one out this year...

I thought you would be grabbing that when I saw you ask about it. Id really like to see that once you get it.
Since Prior will do custom shapes Ive been thinking about trying to get them to make me a Kypher with some extra taper to make it even more fish like. I already have the Mojo for when its not as deep out there.

I too love the fish. Unfortunately the s-series rides nothing like a fish. More like a supermodel. I rode my s-series for a year. Great intro to split for me. Since sold and made a split fish diy. Love this board but it is an old cambered one. Bought a venture storm-r and i like this board better than my s-rocker fish. I would say Venture hands down. Now if u got a euphoria w/ a storm nose you would have a venture fish! Hope this helps.

would you say an s-series is stiffer than a custom? i've been thinking about getting one as they are on sale at bc and seem like a good entry point to splitties.

No. Pretty similar flex to a Custom, but if anything maybe more flexible. Definitely not stiffer. If you want something with a similar shape to the S-series but stiffer than a Custom, check out the Mojo.

Personally I like the flex and way the S-series rides, but other people think they are too flexy. YMMV.
