So I have a beautiful almost brand new Pantera LX 163 that I'm seriously debating cutting in two (well having somebody else who has experience do it. Also want to have inside edges inlayed).
Am I making a big mistake with this idea? This is the best riding board I've ever had....do you think it will lose it's explosive pop? How well do custom splitboards ride in comparison to factory splits? I know that's probablly hella vauge, but in ppl's experience, can the custom job be as good as the factory versions?
Basically, Im almost to the point where I don't even need a solid freeride board anymore because all I do is backcountry splitting. Im thinking the Pantera could be incredibly sexy!!
THANKS!!!!

Oh my goodness Burton!! That is a SIIIIIICK board!!! That's exactly what mine looks like, except its entirely black. I am yet to see a 3-peice splitboard out here in the states. How does that thing ride? Those steel connectors look insanely bomber and stiff!!
I think I'm sold... its getting sliced!

just got a 169 and plan on splitting it. rode it one day at Mammoth and thought it was a little stiff for a pow board (compared to a Prior BC), but think it will be perfect after splitting assumming it loses a little stiffness (esp. torsional stiffness) after the cut.

Are you going to split it yourself, or have someone like Monk do it? I'm trying to figure out if I want to slice the thing and make it my prime BC board, or sell it and get a factory twin shaped split........?
I rode the Pantera last weekend, and it's almost too much board for any inbounds stuff. In wide open pow it's phenominal, but probably not too great for jibbin around inbounds.
Choices choices choices!!

I think a DIY split is the half egg ... a board how is build as a split is a other construction . i split boards and i build orginal splitboards - the moast time i go with orginalsplit s by god condition best snow - only to rock stones i get DIY - the are cheaper
