after christmas...headed south. one day solo up sardine canyon to kearsarge pk. then met up with boppingshoe to ride on goodale. last day we returned to sardine canyon.

that little gate in the background leads to some great terrain...

the chutes on kearsarge - filled enough for some fun riding but looks like pretty low coverage still.


this day the weather kicked up a bit, a few inches of new snow fell and it was windy up high.
in this area the open bowl above the canyon was stripped and pretty rocky but i was able to pick my way through it riding out no problems.
that snow seemed to be deposited in the canyon below. the riding in the chute was all powder.


camped at taboose and left in the dark for goodale. i messed up and took the wrong road, ended up hiking in the dark for a few minutes before i realized my mistake...then finally after dawn at the right spot (that has never happened to me before)!

found similar conditions to sardine, the open area in the gut was wind stripped.
seemed like that snow was deposited down lower and nicely preserved.

We'll be down there the entire second week of Jan. Just saw on the news that Southern Sierra is 99% of normal for snowpack.

Wow dude, I can't believe how dry it looks out there. Is that common for eastside winters?

i must say this is one of my favorite TR's of the season. you CA boys get after that shit in conditions that most of us would be thinking of other sports..

I just got back to Hawaii so my addition is few days late. It was really fun touring with Dave for couple (long) days. Thanks Dave for posting the pictures and showing me some of your "crazy Sierra tour."

Dave has been a star for the East side lately (as seen in splitboard.com TR's).
