What is Burton doing right now? They make a splitboard but they cant make a binding for it? I am shocked that they have not tapped into this market. What gives?

i'm pretty sure burton is dropping out of the split market after this year. no boards, no nothing. who knows what their plan is though. in the past, they have stopped making certain board models, completely re-worked them and released them to the public a couple years later.
I don't think this will be the case with a split because it is such a small market, but who knows!

CK would be rolling over in his grave if he knew how lame burton has become, essentially giving up on freeriding. Frankly, after having ridden Burton boards all my life, i am movin on. Its best that we leave the splitboard and freeride board making up to people like Jones Snowboards, Venture and all the other sweet, innovative and "in touch" companies.
To answer the question, Burton doesnt make splitboard bindings cause it wont improve their bottom line

Actually quite odd after having found this a while back (note the date)

Burton, Voile Sign Agreement on Splitboard Patents By Doug McClellan Publication: Outdoor Retailer Date: Thursday, December 13 2001
Burlington, Vt.--Burton Snowboards and Voile announced Wednesday that they would cross-license patents each holds on splitboard snowboards. Voile Equipment, which makes a range of backcountry equipment, pioneered the splitboard market in 1993. Burton introduced its splitboard in 2000. The agreement, according to a joint news release, allows Burton to use Voile's U.S. patent rights and Voile to use Burton's European rights. "Cooperation between companies to share advanced technology will ultimately help the industry grow," David Denning, sales and marketing manager of Voile, said in a statement.

I'm going out on a limb here, but I'll say that it's because their profits come from pushing "the steeze", soft goods, and hardware that appeals to the Transworld Snowboarding types. It's just the way the industry is.

I've ridden Burton boards and binding for too many years.... and this year it will be a Venture storm-r and fuse bindings. Can't wait to get on something else besides my burton factory 68 split. If Burton doesn't make what we want it looks as though there are some other rider owned companies that will !!!!! I always support the underground and give my hard earned $$$ to people that are doing exactly what we are. And that is why i can't wait to get on a venture with a set of sparks!!!

how bout it...Yeah he would.
I ve been A BUrton and Voile guy since before 98, and I agree. Matter a fact I ll never buy another area board again. ONLY SD's.
What I don t get is Why would Burton not use what they got to move the sport in the real direction of where it needs to be, but maybe were better off because they haven t.
and, Glad I m not shopping at Cost co for my splitty stuff guys,....
RIP CK

Lame shame with burtons lack of interest in splitboarding. One thing that Kelly turns over in his grave, but Haakonsen is so ecominded he won't let his wife fart. And still burton is going nonsplit....
