Yeah I said it. If you are going to put your safety aside and ride Voile plates
why would you bother with all of the other safety gear?
My point is simple Voile slider plates are not safe.
I had the chance to ride up the gondola with some hard boot splitboarders yesterday. They use Dynafit toe peices to walk up and Voile plates on the way dowm. There must be a better way.
I COULD SEE THE CRACKS IN HIS HEEL TABS FROM A FEW FEET AWAY!!!
I have heard people say that the plates only crack when you use them to walk up on.(your weight is all on the heel tab.) I know he dosen't use the plates for walking. please give some good excusses for Voile here...
If you are going to sacrifice the feel of snowboarding and your safety to this degree my question is why not go skiing?

Sounds like a second hand story about someone who's not paying attention to when/if their gear needs to get replaced or warrantied. Do you actually know anything about that guys situation? Nice Trolling.

With a pile (6) of broken voile plates in my basement I would say I do know whats up with that shit. no second hand story here. They show cracks within a month of riding for me. I told him he had these cracks and he said he didn't mind the possibility of his foot sliding off his board while riding. I wouldn't go touring with someone like that, riding on luck and not much else. I don't want to clean up the mess when that tab breaks off at speed.

So someone can potentially dig your ass out in the event you get buried in a slide.

I was just making fun of people riding dangerous gear(voile plates)
thanks for the new sport to try out. looking forward to it.

well, my point was that if cracks in the baseplate are an unacceptable risk level (whether checked or not), that's a bit out of perspective. There are many more objective dangers, such as rocks/snow/ice fall on your head, dying in an avalanche (regardless of burial or not, the statistic for trauma related death is still pretty bad), getting hypothermia due to a blizzard, or just dying of stroke. And that's not even subjective dangers, like losing an edge and sliding to your death, these are factors which you never have absolute control over.

With all the risks weighed out together it seems like a pretty trivial one, it's easy to mitigate (change the baseplate) and the problem is not really that big (risk wise, i'm not questioning the fact that you're annoyed that you lost 6 baseplates, but I'm sure voile would fix them for you). I think the reason people are having a hard time taking you seriously is that most of us don't seem to exhibit a similar problem, but I wouldn't know much about that, I use sparks.

I like to reduce the risks I have control of, because like you said there are enough risks out there. why add another one into the mix.
I had many a voile plate warrantied and was given a stronger set of plates to try...
I put cracks in them in no time.
Sparks make it safe to ride my split again.

Many people don't even know their plates are cracked...glad to hear you aren't worried. Do you work for Voile?
