Planning on a nighttime ride after work Friday with a few friends. Stuck without a split until next week though (ugh!) so I'll be huffing it on snowshoes. I'm thinking this might be the only time of the season it would be ok to do so.

Went to Berthoud last night. Despite high winds on the drive up, they were extremely light at the pass. Since I'm waiting on my split to arrive after the 171 for 166 swap, I was on snowshoes and decided to try out my 160 in the conditions.

Snowpack is a bit thin, but still fun. Snowshoes didn't sink in due to the well cut skin track. The 160 nose dove a few times, party due to user error, partly due to moon-lit surface flatness. All in all, a good first season run and I look forward to getting back out there after the next storm.

How is Bert' looking after this past storm? Anyone want to go up Saturday?

Luca, it is looking like Saturday may be the day we have to get out. I was thinking Bert, but Butler Gulch might not be a bad alternative if the predicted storm rolls in late on the weekend. There is a lot more snow back there than at Bert.

Snowshoeing on the skin track! Grrrrr......

I saw Empire received 5-6 inches out of the last storm. I'd throw out a guess of a new 10" or so for the pass. I'll probably hold off for the next big dump before going back to the thinness of Berthoud.

Hey Adam, Killz, I'd love to meet up with you guys at the pass (either one). I'm sick of the white ribbon of death. I've got nothing holding me back this year, so if you want some company, let me know.

I am down for meeting up. Right now it looks like Butler would be the choice for the Front Range. I am pretty confident there will be a lot of snow back there. Bert got about a foot last weekend and Butler this time of year typically gets double that number. Another thing I am kicking around is maybe driving down to Monarch Pass. The ski area is reporting a 36" base already and is still closed. So we could easily skin up the resort and make some laps there. I am thinking the main bc areas on the pass might still be a little stumpy, so the wide open runs at the area would probably be fun.

Either one sounds good to me. Butler Gulch is right near Loveland pass/ the tunnel, right? That would be super close to me, but I've never been to Monarch, and I think the southern mountains got hammered on this last storm. I'm game for whatever.

Actually Butler Gulch is at the base of Berthoud Pass on the South Side. By the Henderson mine. Looks like things are starting to lean towards doing some resort riding at Monarch ski area. Which is of course closed, so you'll have to bring your own high speed quads.

Dudes. I'm having truck problems. I'm going to troubleshoot tonight but if I can't get her running then I'm going to spend Saturday working on it. I'm out unless things change.

I'm betting it's still pretty thin out there. Let me know what you guys find if you do go backcountry this weekend. I'll probably end up at the basin or breck.
