The plans were simple, find a North facing slope that had both great fall line and deep untracked snow. Over the years I have worked on mapping out the Crystal backcountry and always drooled at this potential line. It would prove to be a worthy objective for the day and possibly the deepest turns we would experience in the season.
From the first second of skinning we knew we were in store for the goods. With strong winds from a strong front we decided to head to the trees. Which provided thigh deep pow After a quick break we went back to skinning towards our objective.
We skinned to the top of the chute and were stoked to find that it was filled in. We knew the conditions were going to be deep so we went one by one stopping in safe zones along the way.
Dan drops in First Neck deep pow (dan is Six feet tall) Dropping Myself somewhere in the abyss Exiting the chute The Weather was bluebird Then Graybird The Bluebird once again and the weirdest thing of all was our run back to the car was our favorite (of course in the clouds) .
Its crazy to think that two weeks ago this mountains were barren and dry. Cascadian fronts are the source of legends.
