hmm...after reading all Eric's research I feel we are seriously lacking organization.

guess we'll just park in a linear fashion...car camping...

I'm bringing a cooler and trying to rally a small BBQ...

Were snowboarders, we lack organization. Snowboarder, er, I mean, splitboarder, um, skier?, backcountry rider?

We're trying to pull it off this weekend. Sounds like a cool group. Who ever gets there first must start digging into this. :D

(Matt, this pic looks like it for a Subaru commercial)

That snowbank pic is actually taken about a 1.5 mile from the 395 turn-off - about 4 miles from the end of the road. The snowbanks at the road end are only 5 or 6 feet deep.

Whoever gets there first, leave enough room for people to turn around at the end of the road. This will help us and the fishermen out and maybe prevent altercations with The Man.

Matt, is there options to set up a tent on a flat spot near the parking area. So we don't have to sleep in cars or pitch tents on the road.

Mtnrider, you should rent some sort of snowplow to attach to your truck. Then you could plow out a camping area for us. :D

PJ, I don't know for sure, but I think there will be reasonably close areas for tent camping. The end of the road is next to the Trumbull Lake CG, and even though it's not open, there should be flat snow there. Thunderstorms are a possibility, so be prepared. If it gets really really bad, there's always Bridgeport or Lee Vining to retreat to.

you were reading my mind...

Will we be tenting out @ the parking lot or car camping?

I don't mind either way but gear will change accordingly.

Matt, are you our ring leader?

I was planning on not bringing a tent and sleeping in my truck, but if the general consensus is to bring tents and sleep away from the trucks, then that's cool too.

I am no ringleader, mtnrider. I've just been there recently so I'm trying to help.

I've got a super kewl rental minivan since my car's at the bodyshop, so I'm sleeping in it. But I'm bringing a tent too in case. Parking will be in a single file, I guess.

Some unlikely but possible problems this weekend.
- No restroom facilities - buried up to the eaves in snow (known fact)
- Not enough parking, so some may have to shuttle in close.
- Neighbors in the nearby cabins complaining to the authorities about us.
- Some random authority passing by and deciding we shouldn't be there. People camp there often but usually there's a parking lot open.
- Thunderstorms ("slight chance" says NWS) - prolly snow up that high but it could rain, maybe lightning.

Civilization is close, so nothing is that big of a deal.
