anyone know of any avalanche classes offered during the spring or summer? preferably in western washington, but i'm willing to travel.

Don't know offhand, but avalanche.org is a great resource.

Not in the Pacific Northwest but if want a trip, Colorado Mountain College offers avy 1 and avy 2 classes. Usually Thursday night, Friday night, then all day sat and sunday.

$40 to $100 dollars is pretty cheap. Campuses in Summit, Leadville, Vail (edwards), Aspen and Steamboat.

I don't think you can find many in the summer. Having hands on experience is really going to make a huge difference and that can only happen with some snow on the ground. I took the 3 day course from American alpine institute in Bellingham and it was excellent. They offer classes almost every weekend during the winter so I would check them out. The first day is classroom study, second day is field work, and the third is a guided backcountry trip up at Baker
