Definitely a time of transition. I'm about to head out on the first mountain bike ride of the year. Hook us up with some summer-time winter stoke!

yeah its getting hard to contain myself..we have hail on the roof at the moment..which means its dumping up on the mtn..checking our weather maps and we have another "polar rodent "coming next week...thats nearly two weeks of snowfall a month before it should start.....the locals say...snow in may..will not stay..snow in june is to soon...snow in july we can rely....

but with this sort of snowfall we may be in for a very big season....or thats it and it goes warm...aaargghhhhh

the next storm...hohohoho

lots of theories with global warming but ...appparently large ice melt in antarctica is cooling the sea temps down below nz and the local weather (roaring forties) is sucking it up and dumping on nz... :bananas:

nb the snow comes from the south down this end of the world...

just an update.....well it has been snowing nearly every day on the mtn and yesterday down to sea level in the south..it is very cold and about a month too early but at this stage most skifields in nz have a base of about 1 metre...we have a severe weather warning for our neck of the woods with 120km gusts and snow to all levels for the next two days....faaaarrrrkkkkk....the minute this pattern clears there should be some turns begging..though i suspect rather wind affected....

nice stoke. those last pics look like some amazing terrain.

your snow producing low pressure systems also bring south swells to the cali coast so bring em on!

yeah its amazing to think the swells travel so far...they hit taihiti as well..presently we have an 8 metre open ocean swell hitiing our east coast.....only one place handles the size.....white rock...surfer mag did an article a few years ago..check it out if you can find it

the shot of the mtns is the mt cook national park..average snowfall in excess of 12 metres (they just had 2 to 3 metres of snow)

mt cook...our highest peak
