Another great trip to another amazing place! Really stoked on this weekend's adventures. I mean its May and snow was falling all weekend high in the range of light.
Tommy (mtnrider), another southland splitter, and I headed up late fri to camp in the Mcgee creek campground and meet up with someone else to ride the area at the back of the canyon known as the Baldwin cirque. We started a little later than expected and headed up the mellow trail that leads up the bottom of the canyon. It was grey and cloudy, with signs that winter might still be present up high.
yup, its still winter up there. after hiking with us to the snowline, our 3rd decided that he wasnt feeling it and turned around. that pretty much ensured us we would score some epic riding, so thanks for that!
the mcgee creek canyon has more than a few really nice lines such as esha and this one, wineglass. its hard to remain focused but i'm glad we didnt get diverted. when we hiked back by this one in the eve it looked ruined.
couple o skinning shots
the access here was actually really simple. hiking the dry trail to the snowline, then only about 15 min of booting on rotten snow till its skin time.
then you get into the cirque and there are sooooo many options. each one of these would easily be worthy of a return trip.
but i had seen this before and wanted to check it out
so after a little break we headed for it to check the snow, it was looking good.
as we got higher it got steeper ~ almost 50 degrees ~ and deeper ~
eventually we had to give in and call it a day. all riding shots are of mtnrider.
*** if any locals or someone in the know would care to chime in and provide us with a name, i would be most grateful. bgnight called it twisted sister as a joke but i kind of like that name!
