I'm sure there are plenty of things we can all think of as to why a 3 peice split is a bad idea. But has anyone here actually used one?

I used one for a couple of years and did a bunch of tours with it, but that was several years ago while I was still living in germany. It's actually a pretty good idea for certain conditions. Especially in the european alps, where there is a lot more traffic and skitracks used to be not that wide (now with the bigger skis, it's not that big of a problem anymore). So when the snow was firm a two piece board's skis wouldn't fit in the track. Also on firm stuff traversing is easier with the narrower skis. But he hasn't changed the system in years and it's not that good and now he sits on the patent. You are very high up on the board. The older version I had you couldn't even change your stance angles and they were bad. Also the board I had was way too soft, but I believe if it's made right, than it's as good as a two piece.
And I ended up breaking one ski and buckling the other. And I still would be concerned with that.

Oh my goodness, I d love to have one of those wooden ones on my wall in the living room. I t really does look pretty cool, and cavemanesque, like the last splitter mentioned.
I wonder how they ride?....Though I d hate to carry something like that on my back, a lill weird if you ask me...

I do not have a 3 piece, but I bet that at some point half of the splits will be. Sounds like probably after the patent expires. I like longer boards 180-190 and the amount of weight that you end up dragging with each step when it is not frosty cold is nuts. Narrower board, less weight and less snow stuck on top. I would much rather have the middle barrel stave on my back. Would you put your water bottles on the deck of your board for ascent? That is where weight is really felt. Skiers are climbing with much less weight on their feet these days, it seems like this is a good direction to go.

Also it seems like you could have all of the guts of the board, the thicker core, edges, glass, etc. on the outside skis, and the middle part could be very light wood, thoroughly channelled out and light like a cross country ski and without metal edges. The majority of base damage I get is on the rails, only occasional bad luck in the middle.

Looks like something Snowshoe Thompson might ride if he was a splitter.

The board is made of wood core (ash) + fiber glass + Kevlar + PTEX 1000 (may be missing some carbon to stiffen the ski)
Crossbars: wood(spruce) + kevlar
Skis have 2 metal edges
Weigth:
each ski: 1430 g, + 150 g skin, + 80 g knife
middle part: 2350 g
Lenght : 165 cm
Width : 30/25/30
All small parts are captive, nothing is removable except the 3 boards of course.
Plastic parts are made with use of Utile Plast.

About 80000m D+ and it still resists

That's awesome. I would love to see and handle something like that first hand. The photos are great.
