You forgot the "I am insanly jealous and therefore I hate you" option.
Good suggestion. I took care of that for you - You can cast your vote now!

I'm heading too gulmarg for the '09/'10 season, got my ticket and everything sad thing is i will not have a splitboard
Wow! That's some preparation. I know I am returning and I don't even buy my tickets until November - Kudos for commitment! I've been two seasons now and I've been leaving my boards over there each time, so I have a quiver growing in storage (Supermodels 163cm & 181cm; Malolos 162cm & 166cm; Fish 156cm; & the S-Series Split 168cm you see in the photos here).
There is an identical S-Series Split 168cm that belongs to a friend in storage at Gulmarg that I know he may sell. Board, hardware, skins - the whole package. He got it through me (new) at a fair price, so maybe you can contact him to negotiate a purchase, if you are interested. If so hit me back here or PM and I will put you two together. There is a growing splitboard community growing there, and the touring options from Gulmarg are ridonkulous!
Make sure you definitely bring a cold-weather sleeping bag, rated down to zero (even for in the hotels), if you go. You'll be so happy that you did. Also a headlamp, and spare binding parts - ladders, etc.
The one thing you will be surprised by is the lack of cold weather. Leave most of your heavy thermals home. I thought it would be very cold there, but really, it's 28 degrees F, windless, and bluebird, when it's not puking snow. Bonus!
Lastly, I have some video from this couloir up on Vimeo, but the insert Vimeo tags here don't seem to enable me to embed the clips. Any beta on that? Anyone?
Haha yeah, but i got the plane tickets for $600 less than usual but had to pay last month so i picked my nuts up and took it with 2 other mates. We are all 20 year old students so moneys coming from my govt living expenses loan so i'll be on a short leash in terms of money.
I was looking into getting a 168 so this could be perfect for me, splits cost alot to get in NZ so if you can ask him that would be great. How much do you think he'll want for it? at the moment im bringing a '09 162 Rome Notch.
I'm backpacking india for december then making my way up to Gulmarg from the 6th of Jan to the 23rd of Feb
Thanks for the info! it's this type of info i need to start gathering but its hard to find.
Is it worth bringing my ice skates and hockey stick? i see they have a lil rink now.

Wrote him already, and pointed him to this thread.

The very best time of the season is the first two weeks of February so you are going to hit it spot on.

Check the link in my signature; I was having the same problem as you, so I gathered everything I could in one place. You'll find anything of merit concerning Gulmarg from 2004 to December 2008 in the sidebars & topics. Gulmarg '07/08 especially is a pretty complete picture of the place. I didn't post too much since January 2009 as I was riding ALL the time.

Could be fun, but frankly, it was too warm(!) at that altitude, and the ice was rarely frozen. You can rent skates at the government ski shop. I don't know how you would get a stick to Gulmarg unless the blade is removable and you could put it in your board bag.
