The skiing community lost a pioneer Thursday when Squaw Valley USA’s Shane McConkey died in Italy. McConkey, 39, was skiing off a cliff with a parachute, or ski-BASE jumping, when he suffered an equipment failure...
I heard he was a down to earth , and more so very humble guy. My wifes family use to own The Bar Salsa at Squaw Valley in the old Olympic Village, and he was always a welcome site. RIP Shane....I ll make a few turns for you this month, up in the great Sierra.

McConkey is now a true legend. Professionally skiing since i was born and living every day to the fullest... Shane is a huge inspiration to me, to get out and live with no fear. Go live every day like it's you're last, you might not see tomorrow... Rest in peace shane, you will NEVER be forgotten
