Basically, I like my freeride boards to be narrow-waisted without too deep of a sidecut, stiff, and damp enough to plow through crud and crust. T6 doesn't have a very large sidecut, but it does make up for it with a shallow sidecut.
looks like you had the 159? have you considered a Custom X 158 or 160?
T6 159 has 246mm waist, while CX 158 is 249 and CX 160 is 250, wider but not by very much - might not even be noticeable
and the Custom X's - both 158 and 160 - have a slightly larger sidecut radius (8.09 and 8.19 respectively vs the 7.94 of the T6 159), and 21.4/22.2 sidecut depth respectively on the CX 158/160 vs the 22.4 on the T6
Custom X is said to be almost as stiff as a T6 (I've heard slightly stiffer in bending, slightly softer in torsion vs a T6)
and being wood vs alumafly core, should be as damp or damper as a T6 with smooth ride pads
sierra has the CX's for 350... not cheap but definitely a good deal (50% off) and free shipping (I actually picked up a Supermodel X recently from them at the same kind of deal...)

Looking at the numbers you'd think that the CX should ride like a T6 but plainly, it doesn't. From a demo I did last season, the CX felt like it had more camber, wider tip and tail, and deeper sidecut than the T6. Basically, it felt like my tip and tail were grabbing more in steeper terrain than on my T6. Then again, I was riding on a 156 CX and didn't try the larger ones, and I know that the sidecut on my 156 T6 feels a lot tighter than on my 159 even though it's only .3 m difference.
And those 5 mm additional in waist width do make a huge difference. I got on a 159 Supermodel after I wrecked my T6, with a 251 waist width and the thing felt really funky the first 2 days. Like, my calves felt sore. That board is fun with 4 or more inches of fluff but not a killer instinct fall line all-conditions board like the T6.
Overall I think the CX is a cool board but it just doesn't have the killer instinct and feel that the T6 does. Thanks for the suggestion though.
I wish Burton still make the Republik. I think it was based on the Johan but has the early shape and flex pattern that became the T6 ... and of course wood and not aluminum. I have a 163 that I use on deep days (I only weigh 130 lbs) and that thing is burly and straight rips. If I could get (make) a split Republik I'd be stoked!
Hey now worries Schralph... You obviously know what you are looking for
I'm still learning ... only in my second season but progressing very quickly... did Silverton a few weeks ago (snow was not great though...)
You mention T6 being second stiffest... I thought it was THE stiffest in Burton current line... I'm sure there have been some older Burtons that were even stiffer... Seems like the mainstream trend is softer board these days??
I enjoy my T6, but also enjoy my new SMX... T6 is all out, but also requires to be on it 100% of the time... can get tiring after a long day (and when you're not from out west and not used to it like me ... The SMX is a little more relax, but still a decently stiff board, but for me find it more nimble for trees. Will be bringing it to Hood and Baker in a couple weeks...
Curious how you like the Arbor once you ride it... I've been looking at those (along with Never Summers and Ventures)... And as I'm looking more into spliboards (haven't taken the plunge... yet...), Priors look really cool...
everybody i know that owns a T6 has broken them, everybody i know who has split their own board has broken them, this just sounds like a recipe for fail to me, but you never know how it will work till you try.
Don't know about you NatasKaput but I break most of my boards. That's why I get new ones . The T6 presents it's own particular issues when it comes to making a DIY or in this case a DIM. The alumifly core is something like 90% air. This leaves very little substance to attach hardwear to. Brian has been very upfront about his conserns and has done his best to address them. But like you said Natas you never know till you try... so lets just hope this one doesn't go Kaput.
