i like to use the mountain weather link at the national weather service in burlington (google nws btv) and click on mountain weather. at the bottom is mount mansfield stats posted daily. this past wednesday, before the storm started, the stake on mansfield was at 62". as of today (sat) it reads 73. you should take wind loading into effect, but in general we got a good foot out of this storm AT ELEVATION. lower down, the hardpack is felt underneath especially below 2500'.

sunday into monday looks KILLER. monday dumps, tue/wed bluebird. thursday may warm up a bit so GET ON IT.

looks like we'll be touring CH mon/tue/wed w/ an overnight on tues. enjoy.

Ended up at the SH last night. Winds 25mph with gusts to 50mph.

Snow affected, BIG drifts, even in the woods. Hard to tell how much fell on the mountain.

Eerily deserted up top. Hiked a few laps
No summit lifts by 1030 when I headed out.

10+ inches at home at 1100ft. No wind.

Dawn Patrol skin tomorrow.

got 2 laps in today at stowe, both were quite good, except for it being windy as hell on the hike up. once we got to where we were going conditions were perfect. found one of the best chutes that i have ever ridden in my entire life. can't wait to go back on wednesday right now.

found 20-30" settled powder yesterday (wed) on NW-E aspects around 2800-3000'
Image
this is my BD pole handle at 135cm near ridgetop, TONS of snow...
Image
hit a bunch of open birch glades w/ 800-1000' vert good for 20-30 turns before skinning back up for more. my partners were skiing and a little bogged down. glad i was riding, had no issues. sliding into the worm hole entrance up top...
Image
coming out at the bottom...
Image
enjoyed a late afternoon sun bake on the ridge before heading down. MRG and Sugarbush north in the distance. and 3 bottles of cold sierra nevada big foot to boot...
Image
snow was epic, temps 28 high, light winds. pretty much perfect. the skin track and circuit we set during the storm on monday was still in and lightly covered w/ 6-8" new low density fluff. easy skinning...

this morning (thurs) there's a zipper crust at 1400' w/ warmer temps and rain on tap for all elevations tomorrow (fri). colder this w/e and early nxt wk w/ poss storm early in week.

raining steady all day at all elevations, foggy and warm... cold front moves in tonight for yet another lockdown for the next several days.

what a roller coaster.

bluebird and cold, but the entire snowpack's in lockdown...

fyi, mansfield stake was at 62" before last week's storms (2), then went up to 87", now down a bit to 84". so, about 2 feet+ of new snow last week. good news is it doesn't look like we lost a whole lot of base up at elevation yesterday w/ the rain and warm temps, just a few inches. let's find the good news with that 84 number. i def like it.

still, i anticipate more base loss at lower elevations though, probably up to a foot or more lost.

we'll see.
