Hello all, I've got a friend w/ size 14 feet who wants to get into snowboarding. I don't imagine he'll want to split till he's been through at least one full season riding a solid at the local ski area. Does anyone out there know of a Wide solid that would be good for giant feet and a beginer? thanks

I'll second the Venture recommendation. As far as I know, 28 cm is as a big a waist width as you'll find, aside from the old K2 trucker. And I'm guessing with a size 14 your friend is a big burly dude, in which case he will need a bomber board such as Venture that can stand up to the extra abuse.
I'm riding a MOJO 171,(great board), bindings Spark Ignition II, Boots size 14, Nortwave Legend. With rear angle 15° and front angle 30° I don't have any problems (for an 57 years old rider this setup is ok.

While I do love the Venture boards I would have to recommend something with a norrower waist than the 28cm wide Ventures. I have size 14 feet and have found that more important than the waist width is the height of the baseplate on the binders. I have ridden a wide veriety of boards and have found that riding inbounds groomers is much easier/funner on a board with a narrower waist as this facilitates a quicker and more nimple edge transfer. The two solid boards that I ride are a Venture Storm 181 (big pow days) and a Lib Tech. Skunk Ape 172 (everything else). Both of these boards are mounted with Bent Metal Step Ins (all aluminum highbacks). The Bent Metals have a pretty tall baseplate which keeps your feet higher off of the snow and allows you to make nice steep toeside turns without dragging.
