I'm staying local this weekend and I'm thinking about getting out and heading up to sample the local snowpack here in So. Cal. No destination set as of yet but possibilities would include the Waterman area, Baden-Powell, or maybe Throop Peak.
Any of you so cal splitters staying local this weekend and want to head up?

Throop Peak is between Mt. Hawkins and Mt. Burnham. You can get to it via Dawson Saddle on Hwy 2. I think the 2 is closed at Islip Saddle so it would require a bit of a trek to get to it.
TTips used to have a video of some guys (Big Tim and Mitch?) getting some on Throop and ever since I watched the video, I've been curious about it. The video was a few years old and I believe it was from May of the year if was filmed. At the time it was holding snow pretty well.

did you check out that full moon trip report @ Mt. Waterman on TTips?
I'll probably be sticking around down this way not 100% conviced on turns up in the Crest yet...
The wind should calm down by Saturday although temps will be warm. Based on the lat/long (34.3506/-117.7986) of Throop, this is the closest I could get to a forecast in that area (although, the elevation is off somewhat):
Anyhow, if you're interested, we're meeting at the road closure at Islip Saddle early Saturday AM (6:00 ish). A couple of us are going to drive up Friday night and car camp, others are driving up and meeting in the AM.

I'm not sure if he posts or not...I don't know him...yet We tend to be pack animals...splitters.
Good looking out...I don't know if I'll be able to make it up but it should be decent. Never know though...

Good turns on Saturday. We ended up going to Mt. Islip and scored some sweet San Gabriel corn
If you're heading up that way, be warned that there's a road closure at Mt. Wilson that requires a detour down Angeles Forest Hwy to Big Upper Tujunga Road. That will get you back to the 2. Back on the 2, the winter closure is at Kratka Ridge.
Once I get some pictures from those that had cameras, I'll post them.
