On Sat. 11/15/08 my brother and I decided to have a go at one of the 14ers. Since the Montezuma Basin is one of the only spots around that has both real terrain and enough snow to ride on, we geared up and went for it. Our day started by leaving CB at 4am for the 4 hour drive to the old mining road that would serve as our skintrack for the days events. We started skining at 10,300' and after roughly six hours of ascending reached the summit of Conundrum peak at 14,060'. This was the first run of the year for both of us and I can't imagine a better way to kick off the season. Enjoy the photos.
Scenics from the mining road.
The Conundrum couloir and our route to 14,060. Luckily a couple of skiers were about 20 minutes ahead of us, so we gladly used thier bootpack.
Back down the to the bottom from just above the choke.
Almost there.
Success.
Castle Peak (14,265'), a little more snow and this baby will be ready as well.
My bro about to have a whiz over one of the best views you'll find anywhere .
Here are a couple of photos from the descent. Not too many action shots because after we exited the couloir and decended the headwall it was mostly a 6 mile long green run back to the waiting truck. Enjoy....

No issues with rocks. We didn't ride it all the way to the lake, we made a hard left and rode straight down the lower headwall. Snow wasn't as good as we'd hoped, pretty hard and punchy in places. All in all it was a great way to start off the season.
