Hey y'all: this topic may have been covered but I don't know much about the new Mojo so thought I'd bring it up.

Quick backstory: I joined splitboard.com a few seasons ago when I picked up an older model (but brand new) Burton Custom Split 165. As w/ most other people that owned this board I loved how it descended, but was not stoked on how it ascended/reassembled. I ended up selling it in order to buy avy gear for my wife so we could slow-shoe in the b.c. together.

So now here I am, ready to get back in the saddle. After a bit of research, pretty sure the new SD Mojo is the way I'd like to go--good price, good specs, and it's available from a rad local shop here. I'm kinda tossed up though on the 161 vs. the 166. Intuition tells me the 166 is probably the way to go but if I could get away w/ riding something bit smaller that would kick ass.

I'm about 160 lbs. w/o gear. Usually ride a Burton Frontier 166 on big snow days, a Smokin' KT-22 159 any other time. Thinking though that the Mojo's supposedly stiff, narrow tail and soft nose might allow me to get away w/ the 161. But of course, I don't want to get bogged down in the deep stuff. If it helps, I've been riding for 17 or 18 years now and (usually) know how to make a board do what I want.

At 160 lbs you should be able to get away with the 161. I weigh about 230lbs and ride a 167. Even with gear you might weight 180 and that's pushing it unless you're on a hut trip. Even with that consideration you wouldn't be riding with all that weight.

Looking at Voile's website they do have weight recommendations now.

For the 161 125-190 lbs
For the 166 140-200lbs

Hmmm, if I bought a Mojo, the 166 is probably what I would go with and not thing much about the bog factor. I might get 10 ft more in low angle deep snow before it got me anyway. I think you'll be fine with the 161.

Right on. If you're 230 and fine on a '67 then sounds like I'll probably be good on a '61. Thanks for the info...

I should say I ride a 167 board, A Neversummer Split, not a Voile model. Still, you get the idea and all other info available leads me to believe you'll be fine on the 161. Enjoy!

I'm 150lbs in my socks and I bought the 166. I haven't ridden it outside the house yet, but it gets around the low angle terrain upstairs quite nicely. Then high angle terrain is surprisingly easy too, especially as some of the steps are as steep as 90 degrees!

It is a bit stiffer than I expected, though. I'm happy with the length, just not sure whether I've got enough weight to flex it properly. I had and loved a Duotone mtx168 for ages, it's a bit less stiff, but a lot older, probably gone noodly. Maybe I'll be fine. If not, I guess I'll have to just go faster!

Go BIG!!! i got a 172 NS and won't ever go back to anything below 165 now. Given i'm a 180lb dude, but the larger board cuts crust way betters, floats the pow, and is more stable on the landing! also, a longer split tours a lot better!

Go bigger is great, unless you ride in an area with tight ass trees like Colorado. Then that 172 is more of a hindrance. Sure you can do it, but I prefer a little shorter so I can be nimble in those tight spots. To each his own. If I lived West coast I would definitely have a larger board.

Killclimbz, you make a good point--the snowpack is so light here in CO that a big board really isn't warranted a lot of the time. On deep resort days around here I usually ride my 159. Since leaving Cali a few years ago I haven't really found it necessary to break out the big gun.

Voile's website says that the 161 has a bunch more sidecut than the '66. So the 161 would be substantially more maneuverable in the tight stuff. Decisions decisions...

I'm right at about 160 lbs also. I ride the Mojo 161 and love it. Haven't tried anything larger, but perfectly happy with the 161. Plus, it's lighter for the skin up!
