headed out last weekend w/ couple o buddies for some fun south of Tioga Pass via the N end of June Lakes Loop. Thanks to folk @ Mammoth Mountaineering for beta. Drove to Parker Lk road, went a few hundred yards and met 3' of snow in the middle of the sagebrush.
after about 5 miles we threw down above Parker Lk, below the ice bulge mentioned in 50 Summits. Got out for an over-ripe corn with quickly-developing-crust run. that's the stuff.
saturday we rolled out late for Koip. wind came up late friday and blew all through sunday. some quality snow likely sent out beyond mono lake. heading up to the Bulge was a real time suck. above 10K things mellow considerably...
heading up higher, we took a rest b/f the final push to the summit near 13K
We hit the summit ridge for huge views, esp south to Blacksmith with great lines and the Ritter/Banner combo. Views N to Dana, Tuolomne Mdw, Lyell as well. One of the best views I've had in the Sierras. MFH models...
Snow was highly variable and much shopping was done heading down. Enough good snow was found to make the summit smiles last. 4K later we rolled into camp, ready to eat everything in sight. it was all good. More pix coming this weekend.
