My wife might have a job opportunity in Park City at Deer Valley. We are considering the move, but don't know the area at all. Looking for recommendations for good places to live nearby to see what housing costs are. Any reason to live or not to live right in Park City / Deer Valley? Better area to live without having to commute too far? Obviously taking other activities into consideration as well. Still in the beginnings of this so just looking for general info from any of you Utah folks. Thanks.

i just moved to utah a year ago and i'm really glad i did. the housing prices in park city are going to be pretty high, but some of the smaller areas around there might be more reasonable. Heber city isn't too far from deer valley, it might be worth looking at. And Salt Lake city is always an option its about a half hour away.

Like Jim saya - Park City and Deer Valley tend towards the pricey side - and a good, close, slightly more affordable option is Heber Valley (about 15min away), or Jeremy Ranch or kimball junction area, and as opposed to living in Salt Lake Valley, she wouldn't have to commute through parleys canyon, which can be an ardous trip -plagued with eternal road construction and every so often winter can snow it up pretty good (but they are pretty good about plowing it quick) - plus it ain't so easy on the vehicle (either way - prepare yourself for utah drivers).
There are also several new housing/condo developments north/northeast of Jordanelle Reservoir just off Hwy 40 - might be worth looking into (hop, skip and a jump from park city/deer valley).
I'm living up Weber Canyon, about 20 minutes from park city, and if you don't mind the outskirts it's very affordable (also Kamas/Oakley) and Gateway to the High Uintas - I've got 11 and 12k peaks a dayhike away.
But like tex says - good blow is pretty hard to come by.
i agree w/ monk. we lived in heber last season. 20 minutes to PC and WAY cheaper, but a strange town. still, quiet & mellow if you don't need a scene. and great BC access up snake creek from midway, unless you hate longer 2 hr approaches.
if staying in heber you can cut half your commute to deer valley by parking at the jordanelle gondy, but no boarders allowed. gotta go to the dark side. also, you can drop off the backside of Brighton and end up in midway/heber and soak in the hotsprings to cap off your tour. we did that alot. up canyons, down into BCC, up to brighton on the bus, then off the backside and down snake creek to the springs. from there, 2 miles to home. just gotta pick the truck up later in PC.
we had passes at canyons last year and accessed big cottonwood from the 9990 lift and murdock. tons of terrain and killer snow, obviously. check out our posts from last season.
i like kamas and oakley myself. don't have to drive up from heber everyday. just come across into PC.
