First "BC" day ever, I just bought this splitboard last week, picked up poles and avy gear and just wanted to try everything out so we took it pretty easy. I'd XC skied a bit while I was in antarcica and done a lot of "side country" but I wasn't sure how'd I'd like this. Well I loved it.
We got to the top of the pass about 7, slow getting started and were skinning by 7:30. Called it a day at 10:30 after a couple laps. I'm pretty famaliar with my gear now, switching over and the skins and all and we played with beacons, probes, etc. Overall it was a great day.
Me skinning:

Probe straight down to the dirt (over 8' deep):
Mike checking stability:
Me enjoying myself:
Mike's happy place:
some action shots I suppose...

Nothing too great, we didn't get into any crazy stuff. The 173 is a TANK and even though I'm a big dude and normally ride a 163, I have a hard time whipping this around, especially without a lot of speed in powder. We got some great turns in though and had a blast. Cheers.

Congrats on popping the cherry!! I'm a big fan of BP too. One of my favorite spots is the tree run SE of the parking lot. Head up skier's right from the parking lot and the trail takes you up to the tree line and the line takes you down to the road by one of the switchbacks. If you ever need a partner look me up, I'm around on Sundays and Tuesdays.

Well done, looks like your weather may keep you in fresh snow too.

Explain yourself...
Yeah, I guess I just breezed over that. I lived/worked at the south pole station from oct 05-nov 06 right after college they had some XC gear there and sometimes it was a nice way to get around, or just get away from people. I've been in denver since dec 06, been snowboarding since I was like 12, I'm 24 now but missed a bunch of seasons for various injuries. This season I've really gotten back into it and now I can put the two things together. I got all the avy gear, but to be honest, I'd like to head out solo every now and then, when I get famaliar with places. I'll keep an eye on the CAIC if I do, cause I don't have a death wish.
Kingpine, this was the first time at BP for either my friend or me. He normally tries to do winter 14ers, he wanted La Plata, but I talked him into something less insane for my firsts treck. Our first run we skined up the switch backs you're talking about that run along the power line, the second run we went up the west side, both times we stopped around treeline, the wind was pretty bad.
