Thanks for looking. My cargo boarding pants are just too thick and baggie for great skinning comfort and I see that a lot of you tout the arc'teryx pants. I'm looking at some Thetas and Minuteman bibs with 3/4 leg zippers. I'm trying not to break the bank and it seems that I should be able to find some for about $200 a pair. I think these may be good for me to reduce my overheating and for streamlineed skinning.

First question. Is this a good price target?

Second question. How true to sizing do they run? I'm about a 38-39 waist line and it seems that I'm looking at XL's. I'm probably not going to have much more than a base layer most times and on colder days add a second layer of light insulation. Will these accomodate my strapping body and the layers I plan to place under them?

Thanks for your input.

I have a pair of Arcteryx Minuteman pants. They are very nice, and waterproof, but a little snug around the boots. I'm also thinking for touring, gore is overkill.

I'm waiting for a pair of custom softshell pants from Beyondclothes. You can tailor them to be any fit you want. The people there are excellent, either on the phone or email.

I have no affiliation with them. They just seemed really nice and accomodating. I'll get the pants soon and update, but I'd look into it prior to buying elsewhere. Oh yeah, $200 covered all the mods and add-ons.

Still, can't go wrong with Arcteryx stuff.

I have a set of minuteman bibs and 2 sets of arcteryx softshell pants(i think they are called stingrays or something - 1 is new and I'd be willing to sell them...). I also wear a size 38 and the xl bibs fit great as I don't like a super tight fit. The softshell pants don't have belt loops so they slide down as the xl is a bit too big. I enjoy not getting snow down the pants with the bibs but I think they are excessive for touring and will probably be hot in the summer. The softshells are much better for touring and not overheating - like I said though without beltloops you need to make sure you get the right size or be willing to sew. All my pants were bought from steepandcheap for about $130 each.
