What beacon do you use?

I used to use the Tracker, but now I use the Pieps DSP

use the ortovox m2 since 2000. keep a f1 focus in reserve ... but want to switch to pieps dsp.

I have a Pieps DSP right now. I also own an Arva Evolution (great beacon btw) that I use as back up or as my beacon if I loan the DSP.

Pieps has a new sub $200 digital beacon coming out soon. I may add that to the quiver.

Whats it called...Whens it coming out...Will it be distributed by Liberty as well???

My Tracker works great, but I'll be checking out the new technologies this season for sure.

It's called the Freeride.

I think it's going to be right at $200. Liberty is the distributor for Pieps in North America, so I assume it will be sold through them.

I got a chance to talk with the BCA guys on the new Tracker II. Sounds like it should be a nice beacon. Of course their beacon had all "ups and no downs" which got kind of annoying as I was trying to talk different beacon tech with the guy. I guess it's a "I won't talk bad about my company thing" but geeze, even Marcus of Ortovox was willing to discuss their shortcomings. Every beacon has it's ups and downs. Oh well, I look forward to checking out the Tracker II when it comes out anyway.

Marcus is a great guy, but he is the only rep I've ever talked to that is willing to mention names and short comings. Most reps I deal with (I deal with A LOT of them) are a little more tactful (they know we know who they are talking about).



As far as the tracker2, I hope we are not going to be waiting forever (like the S1). I talked to Eric at the Jam, and he would not even hint to when it would be shipping. He did say it would be this season

Ha! That is where I talked to Marcus and (maybe) Eric too. I had the crazy looking dog with me for awhile.

What's your favorite bacon on the market? I am partail to thick cut country farms...

Pretty much all of the beacons work, you just need to know how to use 'em...

It sounds similar to the M2 in that it has one antenna. It is full digital however, so I'm guessing that the sound will be a processed sound rather that the actual sound like you get with the M2

$190 is a good deal. It's stupid but a lot people don't buy beacons because they are too expensive. Yeah, they'll drop $1000 on a board, bindings, boots, another $1000 on outerwear, plus a season pass, then a $300 beacon is too much??? Stupid logic there, but it's there.

Patroller Supply has been trying to get an answer out of Pieps as to when it will be available. Hopefully by November. It's also supposed to be compatable with their Iprobe along with the 5.0 DSP's.

With the 6.0 upgrade they will also be compatable with your Iphone, Ipod, Itunes...

Maybe it will have breakfast ready for me in the morning
