One of my friends found this picture on the Voilé site. Maybe a good compromise between soft and hardboots...
Anybody know these?

That is Cowboy's boot. It's a Scarpa Inverno with some homebrew uppers- VERY soft, and no support for heelside turns with a plate binding especially in the firm steep stuff. Brett (Cowboy) can tear it up in these, but most likely not for the majority of riders out there.

I rode my normal invernos once or twice, and they scared me. I'm still trying to find the right mountaineering boot combo, but it may not exist. :?
