OK, finally getting around to getting this TR up. Leann (my girlfriend), her sister and brother-in-law (Kristie and Dale) and I went out to the Tagert hut for a four day trip over Christmas. I was the only one on a split, the other 3 were on skis. We flew into Denver the day before the big snow storm hit so we lucked out. Kristie and Dale live in Boulder and they had over 2 feet of snow outside their house. I had never done a hut trip before and man was it a lot of fun. This a really cool hut that sleeps seven people, although there were just the four of use there. Hut included everything you need except for food and personal gear. We skinned on 12/23 and it was butt cold when we started (3 degrees), but it was blue bird. I ended up with a little altitude sickness, but was OK by the time we went to bed the first night. Living at sea level took a little adjustment; the hut is at 11,250 feet. We woke up the next day to some clouds a little new snow, but we had good visibility most of the day. The snow was really good, but a little low coverage in places, hit a few rocks, but no major damage. Ended up taking 3 or 4 runs. Dale and I took one run on our own above the hut and found some great snow. Christmas day ended up just being pretty much a touring day as we explored up to Pearl Pass, but were able to get some good turns in on the way back to the hut. Then went out for one more run at the end of the day. Sorry no action shots, but some good ones of the area.

Looks like some nice terrain up there! Nice turns too.

Yeah those huts have a nice setup.
It's great to be up there in the middle of that terrain with all the amenities.

in your view from above there is an other, bigger hut with a gable roof, is that part of the other one? same owner?

Yeah, the area is just beautiful. LOTS of terrain to explore. We didn't even put a dent in it. Could easily spend a week up there.

The other hut in the photo is the Green Wilson hut. It's part of the same hut system and can be rented out as well. It sleeps either 7 or 8 and has no loft. Has the same amenities as the Tagert. It's a nice hut as well.

how long was the skin in? was it marked? i've read that some of the huts have a tricky route in. still i'm sold!

It was about 5.5 miles in and nothing steep at all. The first mile or so is on cross country ski trails. This particular one had a snowmobile track almost he entire way there. There is a private hut that you pass on the way in that people access via snowmobile. Was pretty easy to find. One trick is to get the GPS coordinates from the website and load em into your GPS in case you can't find it.

That hut looks like a great idea up here in Idaho's backcountry. That A frame looks just like the one Brundage has for their beer/lunch hut at the bottom of one of their lifts....hmmmmm

What's the other building, other than the A frame and outhouse in this photo?

The A frame to left is the Tagert hut, the building on the far right is another hut (Wilson Green hut) and the building in between is the outhouse for the Wilson Green hut. The outhouse for the A frame hut is behind it and you can't see it in the photo.
