For snow the only thing I have to do is surf, so forgive me if this TR isnt up your alley.

The following events took place on 12-8-06 and 12-9-06 in San Diego, California

The surf forcast was calling for a big west swell to hit on Saturday. The weather people said it was going to rain on saturday or sunday , or just sunday, they were not sure.
Normally I would have hooked the boat up and went to Point Loma

But on Friday it was looking small

And this guy was the only boat around

The next morning my surfing partner called and cancelled , he had to work on his boat. I was waiting for the tide to drop so I thought I would drive down to the point and take some pictures. I am usually looking at this spot from the boat so it was good to watch from shore for once.As you can see a day does make a difference

It was about this time I was kicking myself for not going out in the boat. Here are a few waves

I had watched as much as I could , it was time for me to get wet. I had to drive a couple of miles north to Sunset Cliffs. This is where you can access the beach in point loma without a boat.
The swell was hitting a little better up here.

I surfed untill my arms cramped up on me. I caught 4 big waves and took numerous trips over the falls . Late take offs were the order of the day. Nothing like paddeling , feeling the swell rising as it starts to hit the reef , standing up but still traveling up the face and then setting the rail for that sideways drop. You either have a weightless feeling and then boom you go , or that little voice goes ...uhoh ..and you go over the falls. Ah good stuff.
Anyway I surfed till dark , or just till dark. I took this shot as the sun went down

Sunday was stormy and windy. The surf was blown out so I packed for Lassen . I watched the weather reports of the first snow in the sierra roll in and I hoped Monday would be good
And it was. I went out at Sunset Cliffs again but today was uncrowded. Ten people out and 6-8 foot with a few bigger waves.
I guess life without snow could be a lot worse

Pretty good size waves.
I have to say it's a nice hobby to keep you busy until the snow hits.

Ahhh - nice lines! I guess if there are going to be no splitboard TR's from California this year some surf pictures will have to suffice. But winter has arrived up here maybe we will finally see some TRs from the snow! 8)

Looks like a helluva alternative to me. It looks really nice. Wish I could surf....someday....maybe.
