i thought you wanted a forgiving boot for skinning. i heard that boot is stiff and similar to the Burton Driver X? is that true? DriverX is SUPER STIFF!! is the malamute true to size??
I just bought new boots yesterday (DriverX). I was looking for stiff boots for 2 reasons: 1) I'm getting older and my ankles hurt more every year, and 2) traversing hardpacked or icy sideslopes on a splitboard in ski mode with soft boots is really tough. Stiffer boots should make traverses a little easier.
I looked at Malamutes based on the endless number of good reviews I've read but settled on Drivers because I liked the lacing system better, I liked the sole better, I liked the liner and internal ankle strap better, and my last pair of Salomons fit too narrow for my feet.
Malamutes are the bomb! SO stiff and don't crap out after 100+ days on the hill...true- maybe more for narrow feet, but well worth the trip to the shop to try them on. Heel hold is excellent w/ no slippage and the traction on snow and ice is great! I've had 'em East coast, West Coast and everything in between and have held up to many a day of long hikes w/out a split!

I chose the Malamutes because they are stiff. I rode (and still do on ocassion) hardboots, so I wanted something that had good support, but gave me the ability to flex in the boot. I also am learning to ski downhill in ski mode, so the stiffer boot works well for those situations.
I've not tried the DriverX, so I cannot compare.

My Malamutes are on their 4th season, and they rule.
I use intuition liners.
The last time I was happy with the performance/durability of a Burton product was the Backhill I got for Xmas in 1981.
I wanna pick up a pair of malamutes since my northwave apx5s are on their last legs...exactly how narrow are they? In fire boots(whites) i wear a 13AA, so i have some skis for feet(heck, maby i should just go barefoot downhill:P) and im sick of having to wear a couple pair sof socks to get a tight fit
