Hi,

I live in Israel, we don't get much snow.

Once every two years or so I visit my grandparents in Austria and get to board a bit.

I've always envied the touring-ski people - I love climbing and I find the lifts kind of bland, so I'm very drawn to splitboards.

My problem is in trying one out - I've never seen one for rent or sale in the area. It's pretty rural too, so not much else to look.

Any suggestions on how I can actually see if this works for me (the whole shenanigan as well as comparing boards for purchase)?

As a last resort I will simply buy one online and have it shipped, hoping to resell it if it's not right, but I'd rather not risk several hundred dollars in the name of curiosity.

another option would be to go to a shop in the ressort and to just ask.

One shop that might rent splitboards is "hang loose" in Vienna, but I moved to Seattle so I don't know how many splitboards are out there now

Sadly that's a no go, it's too small... I've seen all their inventory and they haven't got that sort of stuff. =(



This sounds like the best option - my grandparents, aunt and uncle live in Vienna, so we usually stay the nights before/after the flighs. Thanks for the tip!

where are you snowboarding in austria?
if it's near the montafon/vorarlberg-region it will be no big problem. the "Huettle" www.huettle.at is in St. Gallenkirch/Montafon/Vorarlberg and it's the official "test-center".
otherwise you can contact simon graf of voilé-europe to ask where to test/rent a voilé splitboard next season.

next possibility for you is to ask at www.erstespur.de - the german-"speaking" snowboard-touring forum. don't hesitate to ask in english if you can't write in german.
