Im new to splitboarding im a snowshoer I would like to try splitboarding but not sure what I should get.

I am 5'9 and 180 lb I mainly do backcountry riding in wet washington snow. Just wanted to get an idea of how big and what kind of Voile splitboard i should get.

You should try renting one first in order to know if you like it. Buying one is a helluva lot of money just to try it out...

a stiff one, mtn. gun is what seems to be the preferd voile for heavy or harder snow. But i have not ridden one. I'm a newbie also, and was so close to buying a 173 voile freeride, but everything i read told me to go for something with some torsional rigidity and less flex.Everyone seems to like the mtn guns,i desided on a never summer cause the solid boards are bomb proof and everyone loves them that has them (solid and splitz). If i didn't already ride one though I may have gone for the mtn gun (if you can get one) read the reviews on this site and everything else you can find. But get a stick that will do you the service of preforming in the conditions you put it in. We do get some light pow around here,Northern cascades, but as you said, our snow is often wet. oh ya ,and for size, bigger than you resort board but it depends on you, your style, level of exspertise, the terrain you like but it sound like for your size at least a 160. probably bigger. I am grappleing with the size issue myself i'm 5'11" and 200-210 lbs. I ride a 164 now and for my new split I think I will go for a 172. Any input for me and my board sizing would not fall on deaf ears. all this is in the opion of a humble guy not affraid to put it out there for discussion i really dont know shit feel free to tell me so.  oh ya and its late so forgive the spelling
