Wed: 5 laps on Pea Gravel, bustin' through rollers waist deep, could get chin deep in spots. Watch out for tree wells, some big enough to swallow an elk. Besides lots of sluff in steep spots stability was good. That said, I stopped right before the gully, glade, and face.
Went to the north side of Hood yesterday expecting a short and mellow tour to Tilly Jane after the storm this week and forecasted avy conditions. There was only sunshine and great snow.
Decent skinning starting around 5000ft. Snow was quite consolidated up until treeline in the morning, then turned to packed powder from the cooper spur shelter up. Climbed to around 8000ft on the spur before the clouds rolled in at 3pm, so I transitioned and headed back down to the shelter. It was still clear there so the lady and I basked in the sun for a bit and then rode down. Snow was soft and not quite slushy the rest of the way until we had to go back to walking for the last 2 miles or so to the car.
Unexpected great day on the north side of Hood. Hoping to get back over there soon to climb all the way up the spur if the conditions are right this spring or summer.
