I have been busy hitting up canada and dawn patrols so I finally got a chance to post this up. I finally rallied the troops for an attempt on Blacktail peak. I had a pic of the mountain in my elephanthead TR. I have been doing some recon and the only way I hadn't tried to get to the mountain was through davis creek. The map looked good: a long gradual slog with access in the winter. So we went in and set up camp around 8 or so miles in. Got some turns in after setting up camp and were to make the attempt in the morning. Due to a variety of factors we weren't able to get to the base of the chutes we wanted to ski. Weather and distance played a major role as well as the size if the group. anyways we were rewarded with multiple runs of around a foot of fresh stable snow. Here's a few pics.
here's the original objective
early start
We missed the real TH, but a certain NBC anchorman only locks his gate to keep the regular folks out, right?
BH, mike, and Pat. Are we there yet?
four stoves make boiling snow a snap
Pat missed the memo that we are only headed out for the weekend
Breaking trail
Some riding pics
All in all it was a fun weekend with good people. Mike had only been out on his split a couple times and never with a full pack yet he did awesome without a single complaint. We weren't able to get to the original goal, but the foot of fresh eased the pain. And Bh and I will get this before the end of the year if it takes multiple attempts.
