I've seen it done both ways. What do you guys think makes a better fit? Anyone had issues with putting spar urethane on the inside edge after mounting the hardware? Seems like this might help make the connection extra snug but I also want to make sure it won't be too tight for a few layers of urethane on each board. Any thoughts?

I put G-flex epoxy on the inside edge of mine, and it definitely gave some extra thickness to the surface, so I did my interface after doing the edge. I also used Karakoram clips, so the tightness is adjustable.

Thanks for the input Philip.

I've worked with epoxy quite a bit and wouldn't want to mount any hardware before building a sidewall with it due to the extra width. Seems like the spar urethane layers would be much thinner and shouldn't interfere with the fit but I don't have any experience with it or the Voile interface. Hoping to hear from someone who has done the spar urethane before and after mounting hardware on different builds to see how the fit turned out on each.

I'm still considering a g-flex sidewall but am leaning pretty heavily toward the spar urethane just for ease of use and the fact that it actually soaks into the core. I know epoxy makes a fine sidewall but it's not really designed to be a sealant. Anyone build an epoxy sidewall on top of a urethane sealed edge?

You can apply the spar before the hardware with no problems, if you get an extremely tight fit after you install your hardware, you did something right, just sand some material away or after mounting it from ski mode to snowboard mode a bunch of times it'll fit really nice (if using Chinese hooks).

bikeak, do you mean I can apply the spar after the hardware with no problem? I know it's recommended to finish the edge, then mount hardware but I'm trying to save myself an extra trip down to my work shop, if possible. It's not exactly close to my home so I was hoping to do my cut, clean up the inside edge and drill holes in 1 night at the shop. Then, I could do my epoxy and spar work at home another day. If I won't have fit issues by doing the spar as the last step, this is what I would prefer. It's not a huge deal if it wont work but it seems like a few thin layers on each inside edge would be enough to make things more snug but shouldn't keep the chinese hooks from linking up. Obviously tho, if I'm gonna have trouble fitting the boards together using this method, I will avoid it.

I just spoke w/ Kyle at Voile and he seems to think doing the inside edge with spar urethane can be left for a last step. With epoxy, there would be a concern with the thickness of the layer applied but it sounds like the spar soaks in and settles very thin, so it shouldn't cause issues with fit.

Any more input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
