The past 30 days, and still no relief in sight.

And the scene at Shasta, which continues to lose snow-cover over the winter, by way of Wasatch Weather Weenies.

Even all of the drivable areas in SC Alaska have been bad. Turnagain, Hatcher, Thompson, et al. have been highly unstable. Warmest winter in a long time from what I hear from the ol' timers. It was raining on me back in the April Bowl a few weeks ago. :nononno:

Here is an example what we have been kicking off this week.

Sketch. I fly up there in 60 days. I hope things improve and stabilize.

There is cause for cautious optimism.

The subtropical jet is revving up west and north of HI right now. See: http://earth.nullschool.net/#current/wind/isobaric/1000hPa/overlay=total_cloud_water/orthographic=-154.57,43.49,591

This week the subtropical jet looks to undercut the easter pac ridge, squeezing it north while digging a trough across the West late next week: http://www.meteo.psu.edu/ewall/ENSPRS_0z/ensloopnew.html

Not so fast. In SE AK we're sitting at 8-10 feet below normal snowpack and the forecasters up here are predicting more of the same maybe even through next summer.
Bummer of a winter.

In Flagstaff, with one angry little inch, or maybe two, we just ended a 39 or 40 day dry streak--the longest precip-free period ever recorded in winter... Since the late 1800s.

I'm far from convinced the ridge of steel and doom and hell is dead. It moved. Up to AK. But looking at the models, I think there's a good chance it'll build back in in another week. Models are already backing off of precip projections for next week in the SW.

Sucky...
