No snow in Tahoe has finally gotten the better of me and I'm thinking of taking the sleds and splits up to southern oregon to explore.

I saw a few mtns on the drive up to Bend last month. There were a couple interesting features just to the west of Upper Klamath Lake.

Does anyone have any beta on these peaks or other stuff in souther/central oregon?

TIA :thatrocks:

I've been thinking the exact thing. At one point I saw a weeklong storm in the extended forecasts for both Lassen and Tahoe, but that didn't stay in the forecasts long.

Don't forget about Mt. Bailey right across Diamond Lake from Thielsen. There's a snowmobile road to the top, and Cat Ski Mt. Bailey runs a snowcat up there during the winter. Might be a fun, but $pendy option if you're road-tripping and the conditions are right. The skinning's good, too.

Bend's not much further away, tons to ride there.

Just work your way up the Cascades all the way to BC

Avalanche Bowl on Bailey. Finally rode down the middle of this with stable, low-snow conditions this November:

If you're planning to come up to Central OR, you should check out Tam McArthur Rim. It has a 6 mi sled access road that will take you into a remote area with some killer terrain to ride. They have a hut out there, but you can definitely find spots to camp around the lake. A couple buddies and I camped there after the Baker Splitfest last year. It's kind of overwhelming to wake up in the morning to decide where you wanna ride.

All of these look like amazing options. Honestly, at this rate I would be happy with anything that has snow.

Spent the past two weeks up in Oregon.
Love it up there.

McLaughlin is going off right now. Got some bad weather window/timing issues -
but if you got the time, this is the place to be.
Not that far of a drive, really...

Garfield and Applegate Peaks at Crater Lake are options w/o sled access - ski right from Park Headquarters. Mt Scott is also fun, especially in the Spring. Access from the eastside - snomo access this time of year for sure. If you go to Thielsen, let me know, that's one of the only volcanoes I haven't ridden, and it's on the list - about a 4 mile skin from the highway. Paulina Peak is another spot worth checking out that has good snowmo access and is a bit farther up 97, though I don't know how the snowpack is holding up yet there.

If you make it up to Bend, there's tons of options for sled accessed touring around South Sister and Broken Top. Just drive in on Cascade Lakes Drive, park at the summer trailhead, and skin. South Sister offers a 5000 foot descent. Bachelor has a base depth of 60 inches right now, and over 70 mid mountain.

McLaughlin, Pelican Butte, Crater Lake, Mt. Scott all have ample coverage.

The place to stay is Melita's.

Perfect location for McLaughlin and Crater Lake.
Motel/restaurant/bar + the casino is three miles down the 97

I know exactly where this is then. I drove past that casino many times on the 97 on my way up to easters washington. You've got me inspired, an Oregon trip is happening.

Got out to broken top today. All south facing aspects are softening. Had a fun day. If you come up this weekend let me know. I have some free time.
