Hey all... after riding a solid long enough to know what I'm missing, I've just moved to Revelstoke, BC and am in the market for a split setup. I've already purchased myself and the gf a set of new KK split30's and had been confident in getting us the Jones Solution (a 161 and a 152 womens).... that is until coming here and reading a whole lot of posts re: quality issues (base hulling, slow base, ptex graphic layering, top sheet.... possibly some subjective issues in there, but there seems to be enough red flags to warrant attention).

I did see that the Jones brand manager Chad Perrin showed up here to patch things a bit with news of having moved to "most reputable manufacturer in Europe" in order to ensure "QC issues will be a lot lower than in the previous 2 collections from Jones Snowboards". However, this has me wondering if there has been enough (any?) feedback from anyone who's tried the 'new' boards this early in the next season to say? I'd hate to find out there another set of QC issues to work through being the first year at anew manufacturer (which is entirely possible).

http://splitboard.com/talk/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=13410&p=101088

Then the question 'why am i obsessing over the Solution?'.... I'm not completely sold on any one board and will take suggestions. I'm 5.11" @ 185lbs and am more hard and fast that fancy. My solid is a Libtech Banana Magic with Burton C60's which ain't bad. Rogers Pass gets some world class powder but I'll likely tour until the snow goes home (so a purely powder specific board probably isn't versatile enough). The Jones Solution seemed to be the perfect fit... now I'm not so sure!

I'd be grateful for any feedback... cheers!

=====================================

.... after further reading... i think i have my answer regarding Jones quality. The 12/13 and 13/14 boards are built in Austria at the GST factory and folks are still noticing quality issues. GST also builds Flow, Forum, Arbor, Stepchild, Bataleon, Rome, Santa Cruz, Fanatic, Sapient, Northwave/Drake, Volcom, Gray, and F2... I wonder how their customers are getting along?

The hunt continues... Jones is out.

powlo
All my experiences with Jones have been negative, hence no Jones @ FirstLight.
I have many Ozzie friend that have them and are not overly impressed with the boards, heavy and feel dead!
I have one close mate who has been promised a new board for 2 years because of base delam and core swelling but the Australian importer wont return his calls anymore. as you can imagine he is pissed. (Mr Nidecker USA contact me to get this resolved please)

Why would you bother?

I'm sure Jeremy is a great guy but the boards and customer service are rubbish IMO

Try Trapper boards, will be local and you could even talk to guys that make them!!!

^^this, or Never Summer

Jeremy Jones is a great human being but with that said...his boards and customer service need some work before I fork over $850 again. Had problems with 2 solutions last year (no puck holes drilled and delam) that led to me buying a Never Summer SL.

Hope this helps

My solid Hovercraft 160 12/13, the solid Flagship 163w 11/12 and the 12/13 Hovercraft split of a close friend all are of good to very good build quality and are truly great to ride!

Yup

Quality control? If you have an issue (and likely you won't) you send an email, and Lisa, the owner gets back to you, generally in less than a day (sometimes shes quite busy). And Klem visually inspects them all before they get to you. Best QC I've seen. And great people.

If you want a comparable board to the Solution, the Odin will be it. It'll take you for a ride if you aren't paying attention though! I've held the Solution, and felt it was poorly built. I would open your mind, although I do understand your large man crush for JJ. But buying his board will not make you ride like him though.

I´ve only seen one 2014 split Jones, a Solution at a shop a few weeks ago. It was perhaps some sort of a prototype, as it was a no-sale sample from the importer and was clearly ridden quite a lot already, the base was quite scratched. 2014 graphics anyhow. The Jones text on the base was quite misaligned, I´d say the text was about 1 cm off between sides..

I've ridden and owned a lot of Jones boards. Only one to have a problem is my original Solution which had the touring bracket holes just slightly off. Returned it they were very helpful in replacing it. Two seasons later, I've had absolutely no problems with the board.

This year they are being made in a much better factory with a very low warranty rate. It seems as though they are making strides in improving quality and durability. The new boards that I have seen look very well made. They are also offering a 3 year warranty on splits, two years on solids.

As far as the other brands. Venture and NS make well made, quality boards. I've ridden both for many years. I just prefer the way the Jones boards ride over those two but that's just my personal taste.

I feel the same way, but after having problems with two boards in a 6 week period I couldn’t justify/risk taking a solution in the BC.

I mean, come on dude, look at the shit eating grin on my retarded face. I was so happy to have a Jones board at that moment that I held it over my head upside down
