i had a great idea...and invention to mod the nose of my board to be wider ... and float betta! so i invented the wings....got um on a couple board's now one resort and my splitter works great and love the float ... i used lexan as it won't break in cold and made them retractable... too! http://www.flickr.com/photos/104089996@N05/10156745683/

Great idea. And a cheap fix for not-so-floaty decks. I imagine it works perfectly in low density pow. And then retract for harder snow, lest it tear off. You could put one on the front of the shovel too, and two aft of the back foot.
I'm a believer in wide shovels. My go-to split has a 34+ cm wide shovel (and a 31 cm tail). The whole thing floats - shovel and tail, but the shovel is unsinkable. It can handle heavy forward weighting such that there's virtually no fore/aft weight shifts between riding soft or hard snow. Love that ride.

Fantastic! I played with this idea last year, although in my mind they were longer and around the whole nose. And they didn't stick out so much ( about half an inch) so you could still rail a turn without it catching before your edge does.
I wanted to laminate carbon fiber along the edge on top of a used board, but didn't have an old board to try it. I'm telling you, this is a great idea. It's too fragile for a production board, but as a project it makes a lot of sense.
