Anybody have experience with any of the newer GPS/A/B/C wrist tops? I'm kind of toying with the idea of getting either the Ambit or the Fenix... Yeah, I know about beacon interference and all that, but I have long arms...
Suunto Ambit2
Garmin Fenix

Leaning towards the older Suunto model...

Adam is right the X10 is a great watch

I am using the Ambit 2 s which is cool but I like how you can manuelly take GPS references of the X10 for longer battery life.

I was going to buy the Fexix, until I heard how horrible the battery life was/is. Unless you tour for only 4 hours...the watch seems unreliable. Especially in the cold.

Where did you hear about bad battery life, and how bad?
Garmin claims "up to 50 hours (GPS mode); 2 weeks (sensor mode); 6 weeks (watch mode)"

An Outside review said battery life is good:
"At 2.9 ounces, the Fenix is bulky, but the upside is battery life. The watch’s lithium battery charged to 50 percent in about a half hour, allowing the GPS to run all day. On a full charge, you supposedly get 50 hours with sensors on. This is a huge bonus, since many GPS watches are short-lived."

That article is HERE

I have the Ambit. I choose the Ambit, because the watch displays Universal Transverse Mercator (UTM) geographic coordinates. So I can quickly mark on a map where I am at using UTM (SEE: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Universal_Transverse_Mercator_coordinate_system ) or with an altimeter.

see: http://www.backpackinglight.com/cgi-bin/backpackinglight/forums/thread_display.html?forum_thread_id=64986

While I have a GPS that displays a topo. I still prefer a paper map over a small screen GPS for a variety of reasons.

Ambit came with a heart rate monitor which I use for a variety of sports.
