I have an old high school buddy coming for a visit in a week and We want to do a two day loop hike in the Sierra. I know a lot of chutes, peaks and couloir but I dont know much about summer in the Sierra so I need some Ideas

Needs to be a loop hike because we only have one truck
Somewhere between Lone Pine and Lee Vining including inside Yosemite
My Buddy has done some long days on the Appellation trail so he can hike but He is coming from Austin so we both are flatlanders

Would be great if there is a peak to bag on the route

also, if anybody wants to come .......come on

When are you planning this?

How many miles do you guys want to try for a day?

Mineral King would be a pretty sweet option also for a 2 day...maybe shave a little time off the drive too?

Are you guys fishing on the way? I did 1 night loop out of North Lake/Bishop but it could be a good 2 day if you're stopping and fishing. I can show you on a map if you like.

There's also other possibilities out of Sabrina. (both require some cross country over passes off real trails)

I'd look around the Hoover Wilderness if I were you. The sawtooth range is amazing.

+1 on the sawtooths. They are freaking awesome, but further north than lee vining. I am headed out to Red Slate Peak from Laurel lakes rd this weekend. I'll post up some pics when I get back. Did this a few years back and I have been itching to get back there. With the extremely high temps here in Reno this week (104-107 today), it'll be nice to see some highs in the 50-60 range for a few days

First off...there is still some ridable snow on Red Slate. The weather was beautiful this weekend and the hike was pretty awesome out from laurel lake road trailhead. Lots of fish in lake Dorothy and it makes for a great short trip (5 miles out) or do the whole thing and hike to the summit. It was quite spectacular. You could also do a car shuttle and leave one at Convict lake or go over the saddle to Mcgee creek trail. I'll post a TR when I get a minute to go through all the pics.

edit...

better yet, here is a link to my FB album:
