I don't know what I'm more excited for - the lines, the polar bears, or the Scandinavian girls! I just got off the phone with the receptionist at my hotel and fantasized that she looks as cute as she sounds. It almost starts feeling unfair that everyone speaks English - but I'm grateful that it makes for really easy travels!

Wooooo Hoooo Hooo! I'm going to the Lyngen Alps!

Massive props to Schralp for asking the question. Turns out the answer was pretty easy: "Yes"

Just look at it: https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=lyngen+alps&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ei=1veLUeXOOcbKPcTIgPAK&ved=0CEkQsAQ&biw=1745&bih=860

Svalbard:

It was f*&!ing EPIC. Gonna be a while before I get my photos and words together, but Brennan Lagasse put up a summary here:
http://unofficialnetworks.com/state-tah ... ts-122615/

There is some decent terrain near the main town of Longyearbyen, but if you want gnar terrain and amazing snow, at least this time of year, then you've got to hire a boat and head way north. I really, really want to go back with a strong crew and set the expectations right off the bat (for the boat crew) that we'll want to be out for long tours, so that they can adjust their sleep schedule accordingly. Due to our transit schedule and managing support logistics of the entire client group by just the captain and his wife/assistant/guide/do-it-all supporter, even though I split off with the "extra credit" client group, we had time constraints (plus I had a leg injury to manage) that prevented us from getting a ton of vert/terrain/gnar done on any given day ... but I still got to tour 7 days in a row, and tick off some sick first descents.

Soooo good to experience full on winter again - next time you say "that's a cold arctic wind" just wait until you're in the arctic proper getting the sea sprayed and frozen onto your shivering carcass ... :)

Schralp,

I heard that you never went to Svalbard. Someone told me that you just spent all your money on the latest version of Photoshop, and have been holed up in your basement the last few weeks cutting and pasting polar bears, large caliber rifles, and arctic ocean landscapes into your photos from Kirkwood so you could make a badass trip report. Is this true? If it is, can I request extra polar bears in the entire TR? Polar Bear photobombs at the top of peaks. Multiple polar bears chasing you down every descent. Large, sullen polar bears on the deck of the sailboat cooking Ramen noodles.

Thank you. Happy photoshopping.

Well, it's actually true.

The only isbjorn that you will see in my photos will be photoshopped ones. Let me see what I can do about "polar bears stealing our bacon" photos?

Here's a teaser shot of shit about to get real ... elsewise it's going to be a while before I get the photos put up.

That web camera looks to be from the LYR airport. Trust me when I say, "take a sled out to Atomfjella or take a boat across the Isfjord to St. Johnsfjord or way further north to Fair Haven and you will see much better coverage and much better snow."

I'm still amazed at finding winter pow in late May at 79 degrees north ... feels nice after this very dry California season.
